International Baccalaureate Biology Teacher at Journeys School in Jackson, WY

Responsible for developing and implementing the IB Science curriculum for all students grades 9-12.  Curriculum taught includes biology, anatomy, chemistry, ecology, algebra and STEM.

 

2009-2010

Science Instructional Coordinator for Charleston County School District in Charleston, SC

Responsible for coaching teachers in science curriculum and classroom management.  Worked with teachers, and principals to align End of Course assessments to classroom practices.  Trained new teachers, developed formative assessments for district physical science courses, worked with small groups of students.

Develop, implement, and assess curriculum through lesson plan development for various courses.



 

Carl Shuptrine

 

Carl Shuptrine is a born and raised native to Jackson. Upon
his graduation from JHHS in 1997 he proceeded to earn his BFA in
Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI.

 

He has worked professionally in the Entertainment Industry
in a variety of different capacities. He
produced local news as a reporter and anchorman for KJWY NBC 2 in Jackson, WY. He
spent a year working as a motion graphic designer and motion picture editor for
Fanatic Films, a commercial production studio located in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet
Nam. He spent a number of years with the action sports production company Teton
Gravity Research editing TV series such as Untracked
and The Great Ride Open for Fuel TV. Additionally he has
independently produced a number of local productions and served as a Production
Assistant for ABC’s Modern Family.

 

Carl Shuptrine began teaching in 2004 at the Jackson Hole
Community School before moving to Jackson Hole High School full time in 2006 where
he was charged with reinventing the Media Arts courses offered there. Now his
primarily role at JHHS is teaching students digital video production, audio
production, and computer animation as a Career Technical Education (CTE) instructor.

 

In 2012 Carl completed his MS in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University and
published a scholarly paper on the topic of Challenge Based Learning, a
pedagogy with many similarities to the Design Thinking process implemented in
the JHHS Fab Lab.

 

Carl is excited about his newest role at JHHS as a Technology
Facilitator and Instructional Support in the JHHS Fabrication Lab. He looks
forward to applying his extensive design and technology training to help guide
students on their paths of discovery.
